Review of Gabby's Bistro (Dumaguete, Negros Oriental, Philippines)

Gabby's Bistro down at the Boulevard

Gabby's Bistro has two branches, one at Rovira Road and one at the Boulevard in Paseo Perdices. This review concerns the one housing in Paseo Perdices. It's nicely located with a view over the sea, at least if you sit out on the balcony. But even inside the design is unique. It's like you are sitting outside on a little cozy plaza surrounded by nicely decorated facades with small windows and French balconies. Note! Click on images to see slideshow and captions!

They have a well working WiFi also
The menu
It's like you are sitting on a plaza with those facades

Mango and Banana Crepe

They have a wide selection of dishes, pork, beef, chicken, pasta, pizza, sandwiches and desserts. The prices are reasonably and the food is delicious. As a dessert I can really recommend their  Mango and Banana Crepe which is really super delicious!

The jumping kids of Talikud Island

21/6/2017

Talikud Island

I met those kids on the wonderful little Talikud Island in south of Mindanao. At first they were very shy but then they quickly became curious on me. They asked me many questions... about my name, specially concerning my family name which is Lord.  Where did I come from, where Sweden was located, if I had any own kids etc. Then I asked them to jump. They looked at me like if I came from the planet Mars. But after some  encouragement from me and hesitation from the kids, I got them to jump for my camera. After several shots they were so excited so they almost didn't want to stop jumping.

Are Filipinos they who hold the world record of selfie-taking?

World record of selfie-taking?

When traveling around Philippines I have noticed that the Filipinos really love taking selfies more than anything. But on the other hand, who doesn't love taking selfies regardless of where you live, right?

Manila is the selfie capital of the world

But the fact is, in Makati City, known as the financial center of the Philippines, can now boast another distinction: It is the Selfie Capital of the World. An examination of hundreds of thousands of selfies—the low-fi, self-shot photographs that are intensely popular among younger social media users—suggests that the city, part of metropolitan Manila and home to 500,000 people, produces more selfies per capita than any other city in the world. ( To be fair I should mention that this survey was made 2014)

Review of the Food Court in Island City Mall (Tagbilaran, Bohol, Philippines)

A good budget option

Sometimes I am tired of dining in traditional restaurants, I like to have something quick and cheap but still reasonable good. Then the Food Court in Island City Mall (ICM) is a good option for that purpose. The Food Court is located under ground floor near the supermarket. It's noisy, lively and lot's of people but the food is good. It's simple traditional Filipino food to very reasonable prices. You get two main dishes like Pork Humba, Chicken Adobo together with some additional vegetables, rice and a bottle of water for under PHP 200. The food is not always warm, so if you want it warm ask them to micro it for you. Yeah, I know how this might sound, but despite this the food is fresh and tasty. Hey! You get a meal for under PHP 200 after all!

Review of Fish 153 Korean Restaurant (Dumaguete, Negros Oriental, Philippines)

The Korean pearl in Dumaguete

As far as I know there are not many Korean restaurants in Dumaguete and it took me some time to discover this pearl of restaurants. Fish 153 is not only a restaurant, it's also a shop where you can buy Korean specialities. The menu is extensive and it took some time for me to decide between all the dishes. But the menu shows a photo of each dish which was a good help for me. Fish 153 serves a variety of dishes that appeals to different kinds of tastes. They have fish, pork, beef, vegan and noodle-based dishes. I chose the classical Korean dish Bibimbap. The portion was big and delicious. I was the only dining guest at the time but there were few others coming in and bought things from the shop.

At my first time here I was the only dining guest in the restaurant. The two girls in the corner belonged to the staff.
The menu was extensive with many dishes
Lucky for me, there were photos in the menu which made it easier for me to decide
This was my Bibimbap, spicy and delicious!
I also dragged my friends there to let them try...
She was very excited and loved the food so much!

Review of Jatujak Thai Restaurant (Manila, Luzon, Philippines)

My favorite Thai, Jatujak Restaurant in Mall of Asia

The name is inspired by the lively and intoxicating ambience of the Jatujak market in Bangkok. In a way that can be true, sometimes the Jatujak restaurant is crowded with guests, which of course it's a proof that they are doing a good job.

They have Khao Neeo, sticky rice

The food is delicious and spicy as it should be. They even have Khao Neeo, that is sticky rice (also known as sweet rice or glutinous rice) which is common in the northern and northeastern regions of Thailand. Of course every Thai restaurant with self esteem must have Khao Neeo, which surprisingly is not obvious everywhere!
